Project 23 - DeLorean Fascia Repair
PJ Grady Europe has performed many types of repairs on stainless steel, fibreglass and steel frames. However, we have not yet documented any of our repairs on the DeLorean fascias.
Below are the details of a repair recently carried out for one of our customers.
As you can see, the lower section of this bumper was twisted and out of shape.
What actually happened is that the lower bumper was exposed to high temperatures – and was warped such that it was impossible to put it back to how she first was made.
Most materials are the same – stainless steel included – once they are stretched or warped by heat, that’s how they stay!
Fortunately, PJ Grady Europe have a large stock of fascias – both good and donor parts – especially for this type of repair.
Our first task was to select a donor from our stock – and look to remove the warped section from our customer fascia and replace with a grafted section from a donor.
Once the affected area had been marked and made ready for cutting, we located one of our donor bumpers which had been in fire many years ago - lucky we saved this from the owner as it was to have been thrown away!
As you can see from the picture (above), both fascias have been cut –with the affected part (bottom) to be replaced with a nice straight piece from our donor.
As you can see in the above image the lower bottom has been removed and it is now awaiting its new section.
After carefully aligning up the new section, we plated the areas and gave the fascia its full strength back. We then fibreglassed lightly in some areas then used traditional methods for painting.
The bright yellow paint is the first base coat – before we completed a full paint job on the fascia.
As you can see the bumper looks as if has never been touched.
We have conducted many repairs like these, if you would like to find out more – or to arrange a quotation or repair for your DeLorean, please contact us.
