Project 27 - Delorean Convertible
This concept artwork was commissioned by DMC, and as you may have guessed Rich Weissensel undertook the challenge of actually building one! The car that
Rich decided to modify was a burnt Delorean, and speaking from experience the upper part of the panels were beyond repair along with the tub. When fire gets hold of these panels, it twists them in many directions, and makes them unsalvageable.
Work started on our end with the ‘capping’ of the doors where they were cut, this involved tig welding the ends, and then straightening the panels.
Currently the stainless steel work is around 90% completed - and Rich plans to build the car to the above concept picture.
This picture is of the best angle to the concept picture. Below are some current images of the now finished stainless steel passenger side.
This is an ongoing project, and we next plan on fully finishing the driver’s side – but in the meantime, Rich plans on making the rear end fibreglass sections match the concept artwork… check back for future updates.
